"So yeah, you're gettin' kind of lazy Meghan"

http://ny-image0.etsy.com/il_430xN.62210776.jpg

To all followers of my blog,

This, I'm about to share, is that important message I uploaded a few days ago but with words this time. I uploaded the other post too early by accident.

And this is how I've been feeling in the last two weeks:

As I've mentioned before, my sister will be getting married very soon...very very soon...in about a week. I don't know how American traditions are but where I'm from the people who are really close to the bride have to do a lot, so much I'd rather lock myself in a book store...

But I'm close to my sister and I'm probably going to cry a river when she leaves. I wouldn't miss her wedding even if the local book shop was having a "Free Book Day!" event.

...maybe.

Anyway back to the point. It's been really tough getting things done with the wedding coming up and so it's hard to post reviews as frequently as I usually do. I barely have the time to read.

For example,

In Macy's (clothing store) fitting room:

My sister the Bride: Meghan, how many skirts did you try on in there?
Me: About...none. *smile* I was reading.
My sister the Bride: *shakes head*

But most of the time, I'm taking care of my kid brother and kid sister so that my mom and and the bride can shop because...

she's moving out of state. Which means the wedding is out of state. Which means I won't be blogging normally from November 2 - November 10. I'll be on hiatus if you will. Sucks but it is what it is.

However I will announce the winner of the Spooktacular Giveaway on November 1.

Thanks for listening guys,
Meghan

Review: Liesl & Po by Lauren Oliver

Hardcover
, 307 pages
Published October 4th 2011 by HarperCollins

Book Description:

Liesl lives in a tiny attic bedroom, locked away by her cruel stepmother. Her only friends are the shadows and the mice—until one night a ghost appears from the darkness. It is Po, who comes from the Other Side. Both Liesl and Po are lonely, but together they are less alone.

That same night, an alchemist's apprentice, Will, bungles an important delivery. He accidentally switches a box containing the most powerful magic in the world with one containing something decidedly less remarkable

Will's mistake has tremendous consequences for Liesl and Po, and it draws the three of them together on an extraordinary journey.

My Review:

Now that's classy. A good whiff of adventure and fantasy, that it was. Liesl & Po had so many elements of a great story I was practically drowning in them. Liesl is lonely and probably the most lovable character I've read in a long time. She soon becomes introduced by characters that made her and the story so enamoring to the point where any reader would long to have their world transformed into such a place.

Kind of.

All the characters: Liesl, Po, Will...every single one of them were so great and so alive. They came together like thunder clouds in a blue sky because the story had sorrow and hope so bright it was almost blinding.

Above all, my favorite part about the book was the writing. Lauren Oliver has the gift of sharing stories that appeal to most readers and I'm proud to be one of her newest fan.

Oh, and great job

Review: The Visions of Ransom Lake by Marcia Lynn McClure

Paperback
, 296 pages
Published July 28th 2002 by Distractions Incorporated

Book Description:

Youthful beauty, naïve innocence, a romantic imagination thirsting for adventure-an apt description of Vaden Valmont, who would soon find the adventure and mystery she had always longed to experience-in the form of a man.

A somber recluse, Ransom Lake descended from his solitary concealment in the mountains, wholly disinterested in people and their trivial affairs. And somehow, young Vaden managed to be ever in his way-either by accident or because of her own unique ability to stumble into a quandary.

Yet the enigmatic Ransom Lake would involuntarily become Vaden's unwitting tutor. Through him, she would experience joy and passion the like even Vaden had never imagined. Yes, Vaden Valmont stepped innocently, yet irrevocably, into love with the secretive, seemingly callous man-Ransom Lake.

But there were other life's lessons Ransom Lake would inadvertently convey to her as well. The darker side of life-despair, guilt, heartache. Would Ransom Lake be the means of Vaden's dreams come true? Or the cause of her complete desolation?

My Review:

It all started with a blogger; I first heard about author Marcia Lynn McClure from Kathy from I am a reader not a writer Blog and I feel lucky because Marcia is a writer of admiration. I can already sense her books will be my "home away from home" kind of reads...what a pleasure it will be.

Visions of Ransom Lake wasn't as good as I had hoped but it did rob me of my sleep for a few nights because I even read a couple of pages over and over again because of how beautifully written some parts of the story were. The setting is a world I could never experience in real life but it doesn't matter because I had the craziest illusion I was one of the characters! Vonnie.

Vonnies' sister Vaden has a very fun personality and the more Ransom Lake ran into her, the more their love grew. Vonnie is the more "pretty", quiet one but what I mean by feeling as if I was Vonnie, I meant only her quiet ways. As much as she was quiet, I felt she was a dark horse just waiting to be loved. Don't we all sometimes. But this was Vaden's(her sisters') story and I adored it...

for the most part.

I couldn't get enough of the story, the characters and everything in between but the second half of the story felt wrong. I can't explain much on a count spoilers but man did I enjoy most of this. Really great read that first half was.

If you're looking for a clean, yet passionate romance...Visions of Ransom Lake is the book I recommend.

4/5

Well guys, what do you think of the cover?
Personally, I'm impressed. I've read Hunting Lila and it was satisfying but I'd actually wanted to read this title before Hunting Lila. Can't wait!

Wanderlove by Kirsten Hubbard
(I'm not so sure but I might like this. It depends.)

Release date: March 13 2012

It all begins with a stupid question:

Are you a Global Vagabond?

No, but 18-year-old Bria Sandoval wants to be. In a quest for independence, her neglected art, and no-strings-attached hookups, she signs up for a guided tour of Central America—the wrong one. Middle-aged tourists with fanny packs are hardly the key to self-rediscovery. When Bria meets Rowan, devoted backpacker and dive instructor, and his outspokenly humanitarian sister Starling, she seizes the chance to ditch her group and join them off the beaten path.

Bria's a good girl trying to go bad. Rowan's a bad boy trying to stay good. As they travel across a panorama of Mayan villages, remote Belizean islands, and hostels plagued with jungle beasties, they discover what they've got in common: both seek to leave behind the old versions of themselves. And the secret to escaping the past, Rowan’s found, is to keep moving forward.

But Bria comes to realize she can't run forever, no matter what Rowan says. If she ever wants the courage to fall for someone worthwhile, she has to start looking back.

Kirsten Hubbard lends her artistry into this ultimate backpacker novel, weaving her drawings into the text. Her career as a travel writer and her experiences as a real-life vagabond backpacking Central America are deeply seeded in this inspiring story.

Death's Leash by J.D Stroube
(I've become so hard-headed for paranormal fiction but I'd like to give this one a try. Sounds updated...if you know what I mean.)
Release date: December 16 2011

The myth is wrong…

Death is only a man, but one who has control over all living beings. He chooses who will live or die. He commands the fates and gives the order to cut the thread of life. However, Death isn’t alone.

In the beginning of time, he realized that it would be impossible for a single figure to wield power over life and death, while still having time to punish the wicked. Death summoned the tainted souls of the dead and from them created a race of females. They would be the takers of souls, the guardians of the afterlife, and the harbingers of death.

They are Death’s Hellhounds. Wild, impulsive, and terrifying, these sisters have a solitary goal: to hunt down unspeakable evils. When Death calls his Hellhounds to embark on the Wild Hunt, they must forsake their humanity to consume the most depraved souls in existence. Six remain in the veil between life and death, but step through the threshold when Death calls.

Kali has spent her immortal life avoiding attachment. She hides her true self from all but her sisters. When Death gives her an assignment to hunt a rogue angel, she must confront the one man who places her heart in danger. Alone, she must face an enemy too powerful for a solitary Hellhound and find a way to break Death’s leash.

When wicked souls turn from the light,
And baying calls ring through the night.
Face your end or turn to flee,
For Death’s Hellhounds have come for thee!

The Visions of Ransom Lake by Marcia Lynn McClure

"Because...because my idea of romance is different than yours, Vonnie." Vaden sat up in her bed and smiled at her sister..."You like to have attention...And I suppose all women do, even me. But I want so much more. I want someone to love me...To be so in love with me that I can't even imagine the enormity, the depth of it..."
